Technics Turntable Relaunching in 2016

Panasonic has announced it will be reviving its Technics turntable line, which was discontinued in 2010. The announcement was made during a press conference at IFA, a trade show in Berlin focused on consumer electronics.

Here's the presented prototype of the new direct-drive turnable. The analog turntable will be completely rebuilt, Panasonic said, with new elements at every level. But it will also be designed to reflect the esteem in which the classic Technics turntables are still held. It's made from stark aluminium, and drawn with classic lines and a utilitarian aesthetic reminiscent of the other high-end audio products in the Technics line.

Here are the details we know so far:

・ Coreless stator design that eliminates cogging

・ Twin rotors that reduce bearing load and minimize tiny rotational fluctuations (wow & flutter), while maintaining high torque

・ Oil impregnated high-precision bearings that minimize unwanted vibrations during rotation

The redesigned direct drive motor control technology involves the following:

・ Spindle motor control technology that switches the stator winding drive mode according to operating conditions to provide both high starting torque and high rotational stability

・ Adaptive rotational control technology that achieves optimized compensation according to precision rotational position detection and load fluctuation factors

Expected release date is April/May 2016
